- Start with dry turf in the morning.
- Dust lightly, about a cup per hundred square feet. A flour sifter or a large shaker spreads it evenly; a poured pile does nothing but cake.
- Leave it thirty to sixty minutes.
- Remove it. A leaf blower is fastest; a synthetic broom against the grain works.
- Rinse the area. This step is not optional. Powder left in the infill absorbs the next dew and hardens into a crust.

- Leave it overnight for a deeper clean. On the coast, humidity runs near 85 percent before dawn most of the year. The powder takes on water, turns to paste, and sets in the infill. You have added a white crust to the smell.
