What removes hard water stains from artificial turf?
White chalky patches on turf are mineral deposits, mostly calcium, left by irrigation overspray or hard water evaporating on the fibers. They're removed with a mild, turf-safe descaling cleaner that dissolves the minerals, then a thorough rinse — strong acids and pressure washing damage the turf instead. TIMELESS Turf Restoration removes hard-water deposits and stains across the Grand Strand from $75.
Every visit includes
- Deposit identification
- Turf-safe descaler or stain treatment
- Soft-brush agitation
- Thorough rinse
- Irrigation overspray check
Where the white crust comes from
Every time water dries on a blade it leaves its minerals behind. Irrigation overspray does it several times a week; well water does it fastest. Over a season it builds into a chalky crust that dulls color and can glue the infill together.
Spot treatment $75–$150 · included in Premium Restoration where affected
How we remove it
A mild, turf-safe descaler dissolves the mineral layer; it dwells, gets brushed in, and rinses out.
- Muriatic or other strong acids — etch fibers, unsafe near pets
- Pressure washers — strip infill along with the deposit
Stains we see on the Grand Strand
| Stain | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| White crust | Overspray, hard water | Descaler, rinse |
| Orange streaks | Iron, metal furniture | Rust remover |
| Sticky dark spots | Pine sap, oak drip | Sap remover |
| Greasy patches | Grill, sunscreen, food | Degreaser |
| Pink/dark rings | Wine, soda, sports drinks | Enzyme cleaner |
| Gum | Guests | Freeze and lift |
These respond to the descaler above during a normal turf cleaning. Burns don't — that's a patch repair.
Stopping it coming back
Aim sprinkler heads off the turf — it doesn't need watering, and every pass adds minerals. On a well or hard water, rinse in the evening, not a hot afternoon. We'll flag which heads are the culprit.
