Cleaning & odor

Antimicrobial sanitizing for turf that gets heavy use

Turf infill stays warm and damp most of the year — the perfect home for bacteria and mold. Sanitizing treats what's living in it.

What does an antimicrobial treatment do for artificial turf?

An antimicrobial treatment reduces the bacteria, mold and mildew living in turf infill, which causes lingering odor and the dark film that grows in shaded, damp areas. It's applied after cleaning so it treats the infill, not the dirt on top. TIMELESS Turf Restoration includes it in every Premium Restoration across the Grand Strand.

What lives in turf infill

Infill is damp sand under a mat of fibers, out of direct sun — food for bacteria and mold once pollen, leaf litter or pet waste lands on it. That's the musty "old turf" smell and the dark film in shaded corners.

How the treatment works

Sanitizing is a finishing step, not a substitute for cleaning — applied to dirty turf, it just treats the dirt. We clear debris, brush, rinse, treat odor if needed, then apply an antimicrobial, no chlorine bleach, to the clean infill and let it dwell.

FAQs

Antimicrobial Sanitizing: questions we get asked

1Is the sanitizer safe for pets and children?
Yes, once the turf is dry. We use products labeled for turf and pet areas and tell you the dry time before we leave.
2How long does the antimicrobial effect last?
About a month for a multi-dog yard in wet weather; a people-only yard can go several months. That's why the memberships schedule it quarterly.
3Can I just spray a disinfectant myself?
Yes, but it won't do much — household disinfectants aren't made for turf backing, and anything applied to dirty infill just treats the dirt on top.
