Algae, moss and mold removal for turf that stays damp

The black or green film near fences, decks and the north side of the house isn't turf failing — it's algae feeding on damp buildup.

How do you remove algae and mold from artificial grass?

Algae and mold on turf grow on organic buildup in infill that stays damp. Removal means clearing debris, power-brushing the film loose, rinsing the buildup from the infill, applying a turf-safe algaecide, then an antimicrobial. TIMELESS Turf Restoration does this across the Grand Strand as part of a Premium Restoration, and checks drainage so the spot dries faster.

Every visit includes

  • Debris clearing and power brush
  • Organic layer rinsed from infill
  • Turf-safe algaecide / oxidizer
  • Antimicrobial follow-up
  • Drainage and shade check

Why the coast grows it

Algae needs moisture, shade and food — the coast supplies all three: heavy rain, overnight humidity, and spring pollen that coats the infill. It starts in side yards, under decks and along fences. Moss follows the same pattern; a musty smell is mold, not color.

How we remove it

  1. Clear and brush. Lift the film and matted layer.
  2. Rinse. Flush the organic layer through the backing.
  3. Treat. A turf-safe algaecide, never bleach.
  4. Sanitize. An antimicrobial slows regrowth.

Fixing the drainage

Heads up. If a downspout, deep infill or low grade keeps a spot wet, we'll flag it — otherwise the algae is back within a season.

What it costs

Algae treatment is part of a Premium Restoration, priced by square footage. Matted crust that won't brush out means replacing the infill in that strip.

FAQs

Algae, Moss & Mold Removal: questions we get asked

1Is the black stuff on my turf mold or algae?
Usually both, growing on the same damp layer. Green is algae; dark or grey is algae plus mold; a musty smell is mildew in the infill.
2Can I use bleach on artificial grass algae?
No. It can lighten turf, damage the backing, and runs into the storm drain. A turf-safe algaecide works without the damage.
3Will it come back?
Yes, if the spot stays damp and shaded — but slower after treatment, and much slower once the drainage is fixed.
