Does turf grow algae in Red Hill the way it does closer to the coast?
Rarely. Red Hill sits on a sand ridge at 36 feet of elevation, the best-drained ground in our service area, and algae needs moisture and shade these open lots don't hold. The exceptions are the western edge toward the Waccamaw floodplain and yards with irrigation running more than the soil needs. The honest answer: algae is uncommon here
Most Grand Strand algae calls are shaded, poorly drained ground holding humidity. Red Hill's sand ridge, 36 feet above the Waccamaw floodplain, drains too well for that, and the open 501-corridor lots get more sun than shade.
Where it does show up
The exception is the western edge, toward the floodplain, where ground behaves like the rest of the Strand's low-lying lots. Overwatering irrigation is the other common cause. Algae and mold removal handles either case the same way.
Heat and UV, not moisture, is the real wear here
What actually ages Red Hill turf is sun and heat, not standing moisture. If a section grows black or green film, we clear, power-brush it loose, rinse the infill and apply algaecide — but we'll check irrigation heads first.
